Congratulations to Laurent Thibault who was named Georgetown’s 2011 Citizen of the Year. Laurent has volunteered on countless projects and committees within the Town of Halton Hills. He is an inspiration to all of us!
Rick Bonnette has been an elected Member of Council since 1982. In 2003 he was elected Mayor of Halton Hills. In 2004 Rick was one of 45 recipients to receive the prestigious lifetime "Wave of Fame Recognition Award" from Humber College. In May, 2008, Rick was recognized for over 25 years of dedicated service as an elected official by receiving a Long-Standing Service Award from the Province. He also received international recognition for campaigning for local industry in the fight for Fair Trade over Buy American policies. In 2009, he was featured in the Canada Day edition of the Star as the Mayor who stood up for Canada. Rick is an active volunteer who lives an active lifestyle. He and Josey also love to in-line skate in the summer and in the winter months; cross-country skiing is his favourite choice of exercise. During the winter months, you can also catch him at the arena coaching his wife’s hockey team. In 2010, Rick added accomplished author as he launched his new children's e-book titled "The Incredible Adventures of Goon Sharoon". In 2012, Rick was the Honourary recipient of The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.
